Mashup（マッシュアップ）とは – 音楽用語
意味
2つ以上の異なる曲を混ぜ合わせて制作された楽曲のこと。
2001年頃に起こった勝手ミックスの流行「Bootleg Scene（ブートレグ・シーン）」をきっかけに広まった。
そのほとんどが著作権の承認を得ず制作されたBootleg（ブートレグ＝海賊版）によるミックスであるが、リスナーからの人気を獲得した結果、著作権を整理した上で格上げして商業的にリリースされることもあるため、Bootleg Mix（ブートレグ・ミックス）と呼ぶことは適切でないとしてMashup（マッシュアップ）という用語が誕生した。
※bootleg（ブートレグ） ＝ （著作権物の）海賊（違法録音・違法複製）版のこと。著作権ライセンスを取得せず制作した楽曲のこと。
Mashupと呼ばれる以前の楽曲例
原盤を使用せず、ミュージシャンによってあらかじめミックス演奏されたカバー曲のメドレーとしてオフィシャルリリースされたものであるため、厳密にはマッシュアップ（もとよりブートレグ・ミックス）にはあたりません。
